IDTechEx: Printed sensors market will increase by more than $1 billion by 2020
According to IDTechEx, the market for printed and flexible sensors will increase by more than $1 billion by 2020. This is one of the results of the “Printed and Flexible Sensors 2014-2024” report conducted by the research firm.
The printed and flexible sensors are already held to represent a value of $6.3 billion in 2013. The biggest share of this is currently biosensors to make improvements to diabetics lives. IDTechEx states that there are many other adressable markets in the sensor sector. For example, they expect hybrid CMOS image sensors to become the second largest market.
IDTechEx continues to state that the technology barrier against commercialisation is less steep for sensors compared to many other printed electronics applications. They have been following the market for printed, organic and flexible electronics for over a decade, and expect many opportunities in sensing applications.
