HP plans to enter the 3d-printing market in 2014, CEO Meg Whitman announced during the Canalys Channels Forum in Bangkok. The company wants to grow into a leading position in this segment, said Whitman.
The focus on development will be on shorter print run times. Whitman said that the current eight hour process of printing a bottle was interesting, but more akin to watching ice melt.
The second goal HP want to reach with their new technology is a low entry price. Whitman did not go into detail on which form the new technology will take, only that it was something new. She added that she expects 3d-printing to become a big business in about three years.
